BioVigour8 launches at Groundswell

Independent trials prove the new microbial biostimulant significantly boosts grass and wholecrop dry matter yields

SylgenBio today announced the launch of BioVigour8, a pioneering microbial biostimulant formulated to fundamentally enhance soil health and plant nutrient efficiency.

The product, which will be showcased at Groundswell, provides an evidence-backed solution that addresses major pressures faced by UK farmers: rising input costs, variable weather patterns and the need for measurable environmental improvements.

“BioVigour8 is a highly concentrated soil and foliar biostimulant, engineered with a unique combination of Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR), specialised fungi, and Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF). Its formulation is designed not merely to “feed” the plant, but to strengthen its entire root-zone ecosystem,” explains SylgenBio Director, Romney Jackson.

How BioVigour8 works

The effectiveness of BioVigour8 lies in its comprehensive biological action. Applied as spray, the microbes establish themselves within the plant and the rhizosphere.

“The microbes solubilise nutrients that are otherwise locked up in the soil matrix. By improving root architecture and stimulating natural growth hormones too, BioVigour8 supports robust nutrient translocation from the soil and foliar uptake into the plant’s vascular system, ensuring mineral levels are maintained even in fast-growing crops,” he adds.

As well as helping plants stay strong and healthy, Romney explains that many of the bacteria and fungi also boost the plant’s intrinsic defence systems, allowing crops to better cope with temperature spikes, drought conditions and pathogen pressure.

Benefits of BioVigour8

Hard data: proven performance through independent trials

Over the last two years, Terrafarmer tested BioVigour8 across a variety of crops, demonstrating measurable economic and environmental gains.

In grassland trials conducted in Wales, the product demonstrated potential for increasing grass dry matter yields by over 42%. The data also shows that a portion of conventional fertiliser use can be confidently replaced by BioVigour8 with comparable cost* and significant yield uplift+.

In whole-crop cereal trials, Terrafarmer observed yield increases of up to 77%, outperforming untreated controls.

Having extensively trialled BioVigour8 over the past 12-18 months, TerraFarmer Agronomist and Soil Consultant, Will Marris says he is really impressed with the efficacy of the BioVigour8, noting that the product is good to use and easy to apply.

“In healthy soils, the BioVigour8 seems to turbo charge the soil biology to improve nutrient cycling, microbial biomass and in turn supply plants with key nutrients and trace minerals in a plant available form.

“The key is the diversity of microbes. The wide variety of bacteria and fungi mean that there are always microbes that can help to rebalance the soil and push on plant growth. Diversity is one of the key elements of regenerative farming or farming with lower inputs, it makes a significant different in cover crops, for example. The principal also applies to soil microbes.”

Operational efficiency and environmental stewardship

“Farming today is facing increasing pressure to balance economic efficiency, meeting stricter environmental standards and build resilience to a rapidly changing climate,” adds Romney. “These challenges guided the development of our flagship slurry inoculant, SlurryForSoil, and more recently, BioVigour8.”

To date, BioVigour8 has undergone intensive validation studies within grassland and whole crop species—including beans and triticale, peas and barley. However, the product’s formulation is engineered for broad suitability and SylgenBio continues to actively expand its research, ensuring comprehensive performance data tailored to varied crop types.

BioVigour8 is approved for use in organic production by the Soil Association.
